my sims is essential

my sims

i spent so much time playing my sims on the wii during my winter break that i got berated by the rest of my family for hogging the big tv. i became so addicted that i had to go buy the nintendo ds version, but to my dismay, although they look similar, they’re actually two completely different games. today’s post is about the wii version.

this game is less like the traditional sims games and more like animal crossing, in my opinion, but there’s similarities and differences to both. like the sims and unlike animal crossing, the game does not take place in real time and you can choose exactly what your player looks like. like animal crossing and unlike the sims, your players run around town and shake trees, go fishing, interact with other townspeople, and they have no needs (ie. they don’t need to eat, sleep, or go to the bathroom).

in the beginning of the game you arrive in a run-down town, and the mayor is excited because she’s sure you can restore the town to its former glory because you have the ability to build buildings and furniture using essences. (my family also wants to kill me for saying the word essences a little too much. essences.) essences can be found in any place — on trees, underground, in the water.. people even drop happy, sad, angry, or scary essences when you interact with them. basically you go around moving new people into your town, building houses and stores and furniture for them. as your town grows, its level increases and you can explore previously blocked off areas of town and collect new essences to paint and build with!

what makes this game better than its predecessors is that you’re no longer limited in ways you can decorate your house. each essence you collect can be used for building as a block or as paint. the individual essences each contain 4 paint swatches: 2 patterned and 2 solid colors. all the furniture you make comes with blueprints, but they allow you to build outside the blueprints, so the possibilities are endless! let the creative juices flow 🙂
